The Train of Thought Lounge: Death Cab For Cutie

Another weekend is upon us and I can hardly wait to go back to the lounge, where today's beverage of choice is Grey Goose and cranberry juice. And while we're all getting our goose on, the background music will come from the Pacific Northwest outfit Death Cab For Cutie.

Nowadays, you can't really say "indie rock" without mentioning this band's name in the same breath. When I first heard their name, I assumed they were some sort of heavy metal group (I guess the word "Death" in the title threw me off). Upon hearing their music though, I quickly realized that the band was very, very soft. Like, softer-than-Coldplay soft. I did like it though, but found it hard to readily admit that to a lot of people.

You see, being Black and saying you like Death Cab For Cutie is kinda like being White and saying you like N.W.A.; it may be true, but people will look at you sort of sideways until they can discern whether you're faking or not. With that being said, this is the group's latest single off of 2008's "Narrow Stairs." Ben Gibbard's incredible song-writing shines through, as always, and some people may recognize him as one half of the indie-electro-pop duo The Postal Service.

This explains a lot... Although for me it's more the random Clipse quotes.

Or when DCJonesy and I start reciting "Comedy Central" at a bar in front of girls that we didn't really know, because a different song by the Clipse had been played like 5 minutes ago.

Then things tend to get awkward.
