Just When Things Can't Get Dumber...

Didn't get a chance to post on this last week, but it just defies all logic.
The Senate will delay action on whether to renew Bush-era tax cuts until after the November election, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced.

Democrats don't want tax cuts extended for the richest 2% of Americans, while Republicans say they want tax relief for everyone. The issue is sure to play a prominent role in the fall campaign.

Also today, Senate Republicans again blocked consideration of campaign-finance reform that would require disclosure of groups funding political ads, our colleagues at On Politics say.
So in the run up to an election, this is an issue where the Democrats can position themselves very clearly as advocates for the poor and middle class and paint Republicans as defenders of the rich and powerful. So what do they do? They defer to the biggest assholes in their caucus who to the surprise of no one want to fight for tax cuts for the super rich.

Only Democrats would find a way to blow this, and to the surprise of no one, they did.

  1. Wow, I think you summed this up well. And provided me with insight as to why I vote Democrat...only the dems can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Well done.

  2. Thanks!

In a two year stretch that's seen quite a few politically questionable decisions, this might take the cake.

They have EVERYTHING in their favor on this issue, and they walk away. It's enough to drive you insane.

  3. Well, I just assume I'm crazy because I keep voting for them. I'm a Cleveland sports fan so I'm used to disappointment.

  4. Haha I've used that same line about being a DC sports fan and comparing that to being a democrat. You get your expectations so low, and they still manage to let you down!

Although if as a DC sports fan I look at Cleveland sports and feel sorry for you... that's not a good sign!
