"Caramel-Colored Mousse"

Haley Barbour, the man who previously mocked the severity of the spill that's hitting the coastline of his state, is back at it again:
Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Director Trudy Fisher said samples of what was apparently the same oil slick, taken when it was farther south of the barrier islands, were “nontoxic.” Fisher said water and weather had helped all the volatile chemicals in the oil evaporate. Barbour described the oil as “weathered, emulsified, caramel-colored mousse, like the food mousse.” “Once it gets to this stage, it’s not poisonous,” Barbour said. “But if a small animal got coated enough with it, it could smother it. But if you got enough toothpaste on you, you couldn’t breathe.” Barbour said he spoke with a member of President Barack Obama’s staff on Air Force One while he was on the island, after telling the administration in an early-morning conference call that oil had come ashore in Mississippi.

Haley Barbour might be the biggest asshole on the face of the earth.

  2. I just had an interesting exchange with an old conservative friend of mine regarding the governmental oversight on our "Caramel-Colored Mousse" situation and I thought I'd share it with you. I think it does a great job of highlighting the hypocrisy that's rampant in conservative thought these days. Here we go:

Friend: i can definitely read between these lines...do you want to know why bp and the federal govt have not fixed the oil drain yet...its because THE PLAN is to let it become COMPLETELY out of control and then to LECTURE US about how TERRIBLE oil can pollute our planet and that we need to BAN ALL OIL DRILLING EVERYWHERE! i can see it now....SCARY!! :(

FRIEND (LATER): the way they are responding and NOT doing anything that WORKS...is a clear sign this is what their intention is! i'm just glad i'm not asleep and i can follow these clear signs!!

ME (couldn't resist): Do you really think it's in BP's best interest to allow this spill go out of control, which will likely place new limitations on their ability to drill where they want to in the future? I doubt it.

FRIEND: i know D...liberal...i understand...but i do seriously believe everyone is using this disaster to regulate more! more control more ownership of our lives and our money sadly...

ME: It's not about liberal or conservative, it’s about the reality of the situation. I’m sure that BP has their best interest at heart and can read the writing on the wall as you’ve outlined – worse spill = more oversight. So what you’re really arguing for is MORE OVERSIGHT RIGHT NOW in the current debacle to lessen the impact of the spill and take fuel away from the increased oversight push that will inevitably happen in the future. And therein lays the irony. Maybe if there had been the correct amount of oversight to begin with this all could’ve been avoided. As a final note, I like to think of myself as a progressive, but I guess liberal works too.

I haven't received anything back, but I'm sure I will. I also appreciated the fact that he immediately moved to call me a "liberal," which clearly negates my thoughts on the situation as he continues to spout fox news/glenn beck talking points. I also enjoyed how he has the ability to follow these "clear signs"....Glenn would be proud.

  3. also worth noting that barbour apparently thinks that spilling millions of gallons of toothpaste would somehow be way better than millions of gallons of oil?
