We Are So Screwed...

I don't doubt that this happened:
"I knew that we'd be buddies when I met her when she said, 'Drill here, drill now.' And then I replied, 'Drill, baby, drill' and then we both said, 'You betcha!'"

-- Sarah Palin, quoted by the Wall Street Journal, recalling a previous meeting with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).
It's worth noting that no matter what else Obama does, if unemployment stays this high in the run up to 2012, there is a very real possibility that Sarah Palin is elected president.

Next time this blog is ranting on about how much Summers, Geithner and Bernanke suck, keep that in mind.

  3. @ 6.54: In all honesty I think we would too.

It's just that so much of our politics is based on fact free media bullshiting combined with the potential of really bad economic conditions... even the possibility scares the shit out of me.

Bowers makes some very good points about her organizing abilities in the link.

  4. Yeah, I read what he had to say. But while Palin's certainly a powerful force for the masturbating Right, her inability to understand even the most basic knowledge required for leadership remains palpable – even for a country that elected Ronald Reagan in a landslide, it's way, way too much. Drawing a crowd is one thing, but when it comes to policy she's so obviously a walking unmitigated disaster that I have no doubts about her failure.

Particularly against Obama. If there's one thing he's really good at, its calmly focusing the debate on real issues that people care about. If and when they actually trade blows (this fracas about nuke policy is a great example), his responses to her eliminate all possibility of her being taken seriously. Remember how hilariously terribly she did against Biden in the debates? Imagine Obama in that situation.

But yeah, if she won there would be too little left to defend about the United States to make it worth living there.

  5. yeah except debates are for elitists. none of her followers were care if she wins or loses. they obviosly aren't with her for what she has to say because she never really says anything

  6. I'm skeptical about that: the debates were pretty instrumental in 2008. In any case, they're just one example of how her transparent incompetence will inevitably be forced to the surface during a real campaign.

Not that we shouldn't take the people who support her seriously, since they have way more political power than they should; just, I don't think there's any way they'd amount to a plurality of the country in a presidential race. She polls the worst of the possible republican candidates against Obama, for example.
