Train of Thought Film Vault- 25th Hour

Greetings my friends, I return to the blog some 5 months after my last post.  To ease back into the blogging scene, I present to you the latest installment from the ToT Film Vault – Bryan Cox’s speech to Ed Norton’s character in the final scene of Spike Lee’s 25th Hour.  Watch it, take it in, and admire the power of Terrance Blanchard’s score mixed with Lee’s vision of a New Americana…

On the blog front, I am using this post to test some new software for the website, so please comment on whether the layout and video embedding looks normal.  If anyone has any experience with Windows 7 Live Writer, let me know.  So far the tech seems to work better in editing and overall formatting for the blog.

Train of Thought Film Vault - "Moving" (1988)

Greetings all,
For those in the DC metro area, I hope everyone is enjoying their snow day. For those at work, well, damn...

So I was at home over the weekend looking through some storage boxes when I came across an unmarked VHS. I put it in the VCR, and stumbled across a scene of Arlo Pear losing his mind after being fired and moving his family across the country to Ohio. I have fond movies of watching this "R-rated family movie" with my brother and sister back in grade school, chuckling through all the F-bombs and ridiculousness in the comedy gem.

This movie really has it all, starring Richard Pryor as Arlo, a man just trying to get his furniture back after relocating to a new job after a company lay-off, Dana Carvey as the schizophrenic student/crossdresser he hired to drive his prized turbo SAAB to the new house, and an epic fight involving wrestling legend King Kong Bundy and what may or may not be Richard Pryor in a combination of Mad Max meets Ninja Gaiden..If you have any time during the snow, GO WATCH THIS FILM

Film Vault-"The Day the Earth Stood Still"

Happy Monday everyone...ready for the some fun? Here is a throwback clip to the 1951 classic sci-fi political "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Soon to be a horrible remake done starring Keanu Reeves. If you ever get the chance, go see the movie. I think even youtube has it all up in parts online.

This clip "SPOILER WARNING" is Klattu's speech near the end of the movie..which also shows the awesome looking Glort robot.

Now, there has been much analysis of this speech over the years, and there are certainly parts that are both valid and ridiculous, but I'm curious to see what people think..especially considering when this movie was made post WWII, right at the start of the Cold War.
