Also, the regulations including those of realtor associations that had openly racist policies to keep blacks (and other minorities) where they were supposed to be. There are some fascinating urban studies/sociology books on the subject. America is overwhelmingly red when you look at geographic area, but the greater the population density, the greater the propensity to vote for Obama. Now, I haven't done stats on this myself, so I don't know how much of that effect is explained by ethnicity.
